The Jaguar XKSS took the stage for the first time in nearly six decades at its debut exhibition at the Petersen Museum in Los Angeles. The spectacular vehicle often referred to as the world’s first supercar, was presented in Sherwood Green paint and created by the Jaguar Classic engineering team ahead of the manufacture of nine cars to be distributed to customers around the world.
In 1957, nine XKSS’s scheduled for export to North America went missing in a fire at Jaguar’s Browns Lane factory. Just 16 examples of the XKSS were built. The new one-off XKSS presented in Los Angeles is the peak of 18 months of research. It will be used as a blueprint for the nine continuation cars Jaguar wants to construct.
The “new original’ XKSS boasts unblemished restorations of the original Smiths gauges. Everything from the wood on the steering wheel to the grain of the leather seats looks like the car came straight out of 1957. If you’re a classic car lover, this is the vehicle for you.
