Jaguar versus Tesla: Electric Vehicle Shootout in Nashville
Tesla has been turning heads for years with their innovative lineup of electric vehicles. Jaguar has recently produced their own electric vehicle, the I-Pace. At Jaguar Nashville, we want to know which electric vehicle Brentwood drivers should choose if they're looking for a luxury and emissions-free driving experience. Read on to learn more about our thoughts on how Jaguar and Tesla electric vehicles match up.
Performance
The Jaguar I-Pace is an impressive offering from this iconic automaker. Available in a single trim, level known as the HSE, drivers can expect to travel for 246 miles on a single charge. All-wheel drive is standard with the Jaguar I-Pace, making it available to navigate a variety of terrain in the Brentwood area without a second thought.
Tesla's offerings are a bit more complicated. Their SUVs, like the Model Y and the Model X, are available in both rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive configurations. The Model Y, for example, is available with a rear-wheel drive powertrain, taking drivers for 330 miles on a single charge. But if you upgrade to all-wheel-drive, that range is knocked down to 303 miles. Jaguar keeps it simple. You can go for 250 miles on a single charge, all while reaping the benefits of all-wheel-drive.
Interior and Tech
Tesla is known for their minimal interior design. Every Tesla model is essentially the same on the interior. A large touchscreen infotainment display has a native operating system, preventing drivers from using Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Wireless charging pads are available underneath this screen. Other than that, not much else can be found in the main cabin of the Tesla vehicles. They are essentially a steering wheel and a touchscreen display.
Jaguar, on the other hand, has outfitted their electric SUV with loads of modern tech, making it infinitely more flexible. A 10-inch infotainment touchscreen display works wirelessly with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. No matter which smartphone you use, you can broadcast your favorite apps on this display. Not only does the Jaguar I-Pace feature a wireless smartphone charging pad, but five USB ports allow for even more charging capability from this electric vehicle. A 15-speaker Meridian audio system is standard with the Jaguar I-Pace. The Jaguar I-Pace also boasts more interior features like a fixed panoramic glass roof, full leather upholstery, dual-zone climate controls, and a handy built-in navigation system.
Safety Features
The Jaguar I-Pace boasts an impressive spread of safety features. Drivers will find forward collision mitigation, lane-keeping assistance, a blind-spot monitoring system, adaptive cruise control, front and rear parking sensors, a driver attention warning system, automatic high beams, and a traffic sign reader.
Tesla has a more paired-down system. This includes adaptive cruise control, forward collision mitigation, lane-keeping assistance, and blind-spot monitoring. For an additional cost, drivers can add an autopilot system and full self-driving capability. But be aware: this system is still in beta, and comes at a premium.
What's the Verdict?
Tesla models are impressive vehicles offering loads of modern tech and impressive powertrain options for drivers interested in their first electric vehicle. However, Jaguar is an iconic brand that has made an impressive offering in the EV space with its I-Pace SUV. It features many creature comforts drivers have come to expect from Jaguar, along with more flexible tech integrated into the main cabin and an expansive suite of safety features.
